ICMR-RMRC Field Station at Keylong, Himachal Pradesh was initiated in June 2015,It was founded by Former Director General ICMR Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, Former Director ICMR-NIRTH Jabalpur, Late Dr.Neeru Singh, Dr.RajniKant , Director, ICMR-RMRC GKP and head, RMPPC, ICMR New Delhi, based on the recommendations of XII plan proposals and High-Power Committee recommendations towards expanding ICMR outreach activities in un-served and difficult remote inaccessible areas.Since that day the field station was operated under ICMR- NIRTH Jabalpur but after 30th November 2020 it is functioning under ICMR-RMRC Gorakhpur. This field station was established with a mandate to assess the burden of disease and identify the leading cause of disease morbidity, mortality and for planning and implementing district health services including medical care.The main objective is to ascertain the major social, cultural and environmental determinates of health that drive ill-health and the seasonal variations in health problems. The mandate of this institute also includes linkage with a leading health facility in the state to ensure access to guidance and advice in diagnosis and treatment especially relating to critical medical emergency cases.Government of Himachal Pradesh has allotted about 5(Five) Bigha i.e.,0.4 Hacr. government land in Village Guskiyar, Gram Panchayat Yurnath, Division Keylong District Lahaul and Spiti (H.P) for establishment of ICMR-RMRC Field Station Keylong.
